About 210km north of Palu, high up in the mountains lies the village of Ogoalas. Home to the Lauje people group. The word "village" does not accurately describe this Lauje community. Their houses are scattered all over the hills, sometimes several hours walk along steep and treacherous trails from their nearest "neighbors". Obviously this made reaching the Lauje people with the good news quite challenging. Back in the 70's several families moved to Ogoalas to share with the Lauje people the good news of their savior and his amazing rescue plan to bring mankind back into fellowship with Himself. Now, some 30 years later the Lauje believers number in the thousands.
This last week our family was able to visit the ongoing work in Ogoalas. We stayed with some dear friends of ours who have been working among the Lauje people for over four years. Their children are close in age to our own, and they have become close friends over the last few years. Samson was able to celebrate his 8th birthday while we were there, which he now claims is the best birthday he's ever had. We stayed for five days, enjoying some quality time with our close friends. Hoping not only to broaden our experience but also to be an encouragement to our hardworking team there.
Below are a bunch of pictures in no certain order. Read the captions for a short explanation.
